What is Accounting?
Accounting is the practice of measuring, recording, and disclosing financial information
to help investors, managers, and others make decisions about resource allocation.
Investors use financial information to decide whether to buy or sell their investments.
Managers use financial information to make decisions such as production levels or consumer pricing.
The IRS uses financial information to determine the accuracy of taxes paid.
The accountants provide the financial information to make these types of decisions possible.

Exciting Accounting Facts
- Though Al Capone was suspected of many criminal activities, the only government agency who ever successfully arrested, prosecuted, and incarcerated him was the IRS for tax evasion. www.irs.gov
- Travel and see the world as an accountant.
- Some public accountants travel more than 50% of the time giving them a great opportunity to see the country and the world.
- Private-sector, governmental, and nonprofit accountants also have the opportunity to travel to offices run by the organization for which they work.
